MAD-Aid began with a simple mission—to deliver essential aid such as hospital beds and wheelchairs to those in need. On their first trip, founders Victoria and John were struck by the overwhelming scale of need. At one point, John admitted, “It’s beyond our capabilities.”
Everything changed when they met Alexandru, a nine-year-old boy with cerebral palsy who had just received his first wheelchair. Smiling, he said, “Now I can see the trees outside, not just the leaves from my bedroom window.” In that moment, Victoria and John knew they couldn’t stop.
They realized they had a choice—but many of the people they were helping did not. Even helping one child could change a life, and that was reason enough to continue.
Over a decade later, MAD-Aid has delivered more than 1,200 wheelchairs, supported isolated communities, and recycled large volumes of medical aid. The organisation has also built a care complex serving hundreds of disabled children each year, along with a high-quality care home for the elderly. Their work has even contributed to improvements in health and social care legislation in Moldova.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, MAD-Aid expanded its efforts, using Victoria’s logistics expertise and global network to support both the UK and Moldova. The team has also played a vital role in helping thousands of displaced Ukrainians—providing aid to those in Ukraine, sheltering in Moldova, and arriving in the UK.
Today, Victoria and John continue to lead MAD-Aid, supported by a team of trustees, volunteers, ambassadors, and staff working together to keep making a difference.
At MAD-Aid, our mission is simple yet profound: to empower lives and transform communities.
Provide support and resources for disabled individuals, including equipment, education, and socio-medical services, to help them achieve their full potential.
Acknowledge and address systemic inequalities and work towards policies, programs, and practices that provide equal opportunities and access.
Promote recycling, reusing, and repurposing in medical and specialized equipment.
Utilize analytics and data insights to inform strategies, improving efficiency and results across initiatives.
Foster partnerships and encourage participation from local stakeholders to enhance support and collaboration.

"I love helping children less able, I love to see the happy faces of whose who benefit of MAD-Aid. I witness their transformation for many years now, starting in MAD-Aid as private and corporate donor and becoming a trustee."
"Martin Luther King said "I have a Dream", Victoria came to us and said "I have a draem with a Plan" and surley she did and since then never stopped supporting those kids in Moldova. We are honoured to be part of it.
"Why do I donate - my time, skills, and funds? Because I have deep-seated desire for social justice and because I can. I long to live in a fairer world where no one is shunned or "othered' and everyone is given ample opportunity to succeed or become their best self.."
"We are proud that, together with our partners, we were able to contribute to renovating the department according to European standards, providing medical staff with optimal working conditions and little patients with a warmer and more welcoming environment during difficult moments."
"I first encountered Victoria in late 2013 when she cajoled me into attending a presentation of 200 wheelchairs, impressively I though. Over the next three years I was to witness Victoria launched her campaign against some of the social injustice that exist in Moldova. I felt honoured to be small part of this giant work - running marathons, donating and supporting in any way I could."
"I had a pleasure of meeting Victoria in 2015, and it soon became clear to me that I was dealing with a force of nature. Here is someone, I thought, who embodies all that's best into humanity. She surely can breathe life into her vision. Me and my wife Barbara have supported MAD-Aid from the day Victoria told us about it. Since then we become ambassadors for every great project the charity does and brought in many friends from the USA to Moldova."
