Opening a hydrotherapy pool at MAD-Aid’s Phoenix Complex for disabled children and young people in Moldova
On Sunday 19th of September 2021, just six years after the opening of Phoenix Centre, MAD-Aid achieved its ambitious goal of launching the Phoenix Hydrotherapy Pool.
Phoenix Pool is our third major program, after the Centre and Phoenix Home, to complete our vision of Phoenix Complex | Complexul Phoenix
You know our mantra: TOGETHER we can! Like all bold goals, this project was possible thanks to a broad group of supporters working TOGETHER.
Specifically, to date we count 437 individual donors and 53 organisations that provided funds and more.
Behind these numbers are also countless hours of meetings, many disappointments to overcome, encouragement received from surprising sources, and a huge amount of trust that gave us a huge responsibility.
Victoria Dunford, founder and CEO of MAD-Aid conceived the idea for building this hydrotherapy pool two years ago. It is with her determination and under her focused leadership that perseverance against many odds won the day.
The launch was an event full of gratitude to everyone involved (too many to name in one post), expressed in song by the Phoenix youth along with singers. And the well-wishers enjoyed the entertainment by volunteer musicians, magicians, and animators. Our heartfelt thanks as well to those who spoke eloquent words.
Phoenix Pool is the first warm water, fully accessible pool in northern Moldova, able to provide 5000+ free hydrotherapy sessions to more than 400 disabled children and young people per year and swimming lessons for disadvantaged children in the local community. It will add greatly to the quality of life of the children and young people who use the Phoenix Centre and will be a valuable resource for local people.
